Just Something To Say

First off, I'm going to start out by saying my name is Warren. I'm 19 and I live in a rural town in Kentucky. Yes, I'm well aware of your first thought when I say that I am in fact from Kentucky, however, I'll ignore that point and continue on. Within moments of creating this blog I suddenly was faced with a question. The question is: Am I writing this for you, the reader, or am I writing this for me? Am I doing this for some kind of selfish pleasure or am I truly using this as a medium for my thoughts, feelings, and any other emotion that may face me in my life? So, naturally, I stepped away from the computer, walked outside, and took a moment to think about this. After about fifteen minutes of thinking this matter over, I have come to the conclusion that I am solely doing this for myself. I have hopes that someone will read this, enjoy it, and return, but that is not my main focus. With that being said, let's continue.

I've been writing off and on since I was about twelve years old. I've always enjoyed it and in the past few days I've decided to try and make this my career. Not as a blogger, but as a professional writer, hopefully in a more technical field. I'm drawn to grant writing, though I don't know the full details of the career. Oddly enough, I have failed in nearly all my attempts to write something strictly technical in nature. In high school senior English class we were assigned many papers, mostly persuasive or informative pieces. I saw this as rather inpersonal and decided to add my own creative touch to each paper. For example, I decided to write a paper persuading individuals to push for American intervention in Darfur. Rather than stick to basic facts, I opened with a lengthy paragraph describing a genocide wasteland and a sole boy who had survived the initial attack. My goal was to make the reader feel as though they were standing right there as the events took place and to make them feel as though they pulled the trigger that eventually ends the young boys life. It's gruesome I know, but it seemed to be the most effective way to persuade people. I don't believe you can persuade people with facts, I believe it takes passionate, emotional writing to do so. I may post this paper at a later time; I'm still undecided.

Throughout my time doing this post, I hope to use it as an exercise tool for my writing and also as a release. I plan to write about various things in the news and my life, and hopefully convey them in a meaninful, interesting manner. Hopefully, you'll be able to see me grow as a writer and person through this post. I feel that is all I have to say for now. Please check back as I plan to post as much as possible.

Thank You,

Warren

I started my blog with similiar ideals back on 1/13/2007. You will enjoy the journey. Just continue to post on subjects for which you have a passion...
